Free up 40GB on Windows without deleting your files
Find the space hogs and use Windows' built-in tools before removing anything important.

Find the biggest folders first
Before deleting anything, open Windows Storage settings and check which categories consume the most space. Games, videos, temporary files, and old downloads are common culprits. The exact amount you can reclaim depends on your computer.
Sort installed apps by size and uninstall ones you no longer use. Moving a large game to another drive can save more space than hours of deleting tiny files.
Use safe cleanup tools
Windows can remove temporary files, update leftovers, and recycle-bin contents through Storage settings. Read each checkbox carefully, especially Downloads, so you don't remove files you still need.
Turn on Storage Sense to keep the clutter from returning. If you have cloud-synced files, use your provider's 'free up space' option to leave online copies in place while removing local ones.
Check your result
Restart if Windows requests it, then compare free space before and after. A 40GB gain is possible on some neglected machines, but it isn't guaranteed and shouldn't require deleting personal documents.
If the drive is still nearly full, consider moving media to external storage or upgrading the drive instead of relying on repeated cleanup.
